Satellite Remote Sensing can support Mineral Exploration by identifying surface indicators such as Hydrothermal Alteration, Iron Oxides, Clay Minerals, Silica, Faults, Fractures, and Lithological Contacts. Using multispectral data such as ASTER, spectral information from VNIR and SWIR bands can be analyzed through Band Ratios, Spectral Indices, and other methods to identify areas with potential mineralization.
Importantly, satellites do not directly detect minerals deep underground. Instead, they help identify surface geological and spectral characteristics associated with mineralization. By combining Spectral, Geological, and Structural Evidence, potential exploration targets can be prioritized for further Field Survey, Geological Mapping, Geochemical Sampling, and Laboratory Analysis.
Remote Sensing therefore provides a valuable first step for screening and prioritizing exploration areas, helping reduce the time and cost required for field investigations.
