Proposals that open with "I" are the easiest to ignore.
"I am an experienced developer with 5 years of experience."
"I read your job post and I am confident I can do this."
Clients see 40 proposals on every job. Almost every single one starts like that.
When a client skims the list, they only see the first two lines. If those lines are about you, they have no reason to click open.
They do not care who you are yet. They care about their problem.
Here is what to do instead:
👉 Open with their name, one specific observation about their project, and a simple question.
👉 Prove you actually looked at their job before you typed a word.
👉 Keep the whole proposal under five lines.
Example:
"Hi Sarah, I noticed your mobile site is slow because of two uncompressed scripts. Want a quick breakdown?"
Notice what is missing: zero sentences starting with "I".
Check your last sent proposal right now. What was the very first word?
መልካም ቡሄ!
