Two things decide whether you get invited. Neither one is a person.
👉 The search index. Decides whether you appear at all when a client searches your skill. If your profile has no clear keyword, you rank for nothing.
👉 The AI shortlist. Since May 2026, Upwork's AI reviews the talent pool and hands the client a ranked shortlist, then invites the people it picked. It lands within about 6 hours of a job being posted.
Both read the same thing: your profile text.
This is why "I have 8 years of experience" changes nothing. Neither reader is impressed. They are matching words.
