Vol at the Floor, Range Intact
BTC reclaims $64k and its short-term averages, but options are priced for nothing to happen ahead of the minutes.
BTC trades $64,269, up 1.6% since Monday's note and back above both its 20-day ($63,839) and 50-day ($63,878) after a $64,834 print over the window. The character is a quiet reclaim, not a breakout: RSI sits neutral at 52.6, and the 24h liquidation tape ran $183m, with BTC carrying $60m and no forced flow behind the drift.
The under-the-radar read is vol, not price. BTC 30-day implied sits at 34, the 5th percentile of its 1-year range, and ETH vol is at the very floor, 46, the 0th percentile. The market is priced for a dead calm even as Washington gives crypto reasons to move: Tuesday's surprise SEC proposal for a token safe-harbour offered a structural bid, and today the White House hosts crypto and prediction-market executives, with Trump expected to attend a day before the CFTC's inaugural innovation panel. Yet with CLARITY Act odds pegged near 10% before recess ends, the near-term catalyst stays elusive.
Dealer hedging turns supportive above $65k, where positioning flips, and skew still pays roughly 4.2 vols for downside. Today's 18:00 UTC FOMC minutes are the one scheduled test. Compressed vol into a live event: cheap optionality, patient range.
