The Book Cools, Not Breaks
BTC eases back into the low-$78ks as the overbought squeeze exhales, with vol back at its year's floor.
BTC sits at $78,345, down 1.2% since Friday's note over a 71h window that ran as low as $77,346, more an unwinding of the overbought book than a genuine turn. RSI(14) has cooled to 69.8 from the high-70s that defined last week, though spot still trades 12% above its 200-day. The heat has come out without the structure breaking.
Underneath, the tape absorbed real stress cleanly. A $75m exploit halted the Cronos chain over the weekend, oil firmed and equities eased on the US strike on Iran, yet BTC barely blinked. The soft leg was leverage: $163m in liquidations over 24h skewed long, ETH ($130m) leading with BTC ($92m) and SOL ($30m) behind as the pullback ran late longs. Friday's session also snapped a nine-day ETF inflow streak with $202m of BTC outflows, even as ETH funds kept their run.
Options price nothing in particular. BTC vol sits at 36.9, the 15th percentile of its year, ETH at 50.8 near its floor, with dealer positioning stacked heavy at $80-82k, still the lid to clear. Tuesday's 14:00 UTC ISM Manufacturing is the first read of the week, with Friday's payrolls the real test. Cooling, not capitulating.
