⭕These groups were divided into two categories:
The first category: They existed before the establishment of the Islamic state, such as the Mazdakites, who regarded prohibited things as permissible and claimed that people shared their property and women with one another. Their sedition continued until Anushirvan, during his reign, put them to death.
The second category: These were the Khurramites, who emerged during the period of the Islamic state. They, too, were divided into two groups: the Babakites and the Mazyarites; both were also known as the Muhammarah.
They regarded prohibited things as permissible and killed large numbers of Muslims.
The Babakites, in their mountainous region, held a particular night as a festival and celebration of their own. On that night, they would gather together, drink wine, and play musical instruments, while their men and women mingled with one another. Then, when their lamps and fires were extinguished, the men and women would engage in sexual intercourse indiscriminately and by lot.

⭕ Sister marriage of course certainly occurred. In the Achaemenid pe-riod there is credible evidence for the occasional marriage of royal sib-lings, or at least of half-siblings. The same is true for the Arsakid era. In Avroman I (p. 40 above) lines 2-5, for example, two wives of the king are described as his half-sisters (with the same father). In addition, Babylonian texts of the years 80/79 to 76/75 B.C. list Ispubarza, wife of Orodes I, as his sister (full or half-).37 In the Arsakid period, too, and more specifically in the first century A.D. in fact, there is also some evi-dence (a very limited amount) for marriages of non-royal half-siblings or full siblings.

⭕During the Sasanian period, the Zoroastrians were ordered to massacre all Mazdakians, their property was confiscated, and their religious books were burned.

⭕The Achaemenid kings married their very close relatives.
Some Persian kings had more than one wife; for example, we hear that Darius I had six wives, Ardashir II had three wives, and Darius III had two wives. Although we do not know how many wives the other kings had, it was probably common to have several wives.

⭕Early in 572 the Persian War was resumed. The following year the Persians seized Dara on the Tigris, an important Christian bishopric, simultaneously ravaging Syria whence they are said to have returned with no fewer than 292,000 captives. Of these, 2,000 exquisite Christian virgins had been person-ally selected by Chosroes; but the maidens, reaching a river, sought permission to bathe, distanced themselves from the soldiers on grounds of modesty and then, rather than face the loss of religion and virtue together, drowned themselves.
