💼 Sony and Warner sue Anthropic for music copyright theft
Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell Music filed suit against Anthropic, CEO Dario Amodei, and co-founder Benjamin Mann on August 28, alleging tens of thousands of copyrighted musical compositions — including "Eye of the Tiger," "Hallelujah," and "All I Want for Christmas Is You" — were used without permission to train Claude.
The plaintiffs seek up to $150,000 per composition plus $25,000 per instance of stripped copyright data, with total damages potentially reaching several billion dollars. This follows Anthropic's $1.5 billion settlement with book authors last September.
