🇩🇪 The pro-Russian party "AfD" (AfD) is preparing for the first time to win an election in a German federal state.
Elections will take place tomorrow in Saxony-Anhalt, where the far-right party is polling 41–43% of the vote — almost twice as much as the CDU (22–23%).
This represents a sharp shift of 20 percentage points compared to 2021.
All other parties refuse to enter into a coalition with them, so even in the event of a victory, forming a government could be delayed for months.
If a sufficient number of small parties fails to overcome the 5% threshold, the AfD could win an absolute majority.
These elections are the first of three to be held in German states this month, and they are seen as a signal of the direction the country is heading ahead of the 2029 federal elections.
