— North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un says the country’s newest 5,000-ton destroyer, the Kang Kon, will become part of its nuclear response system and could carry out “annihilating retaliatory strikes,” KCNA reports.Commissioned on Sunday in the eastern port city of Wonsan, the Kang Kon is the second vessel of its class after the Choe Hyon entered service on North Korea’s west coast three months ago.
Kim said North Korea would continue expanding its naval nuclear capabilities and strategic assets, declaring that “the time has come for us to exercise our sovereignty at sea and under water.”
He also announced that new naval bases, units, and additional classes of warships are being developed.
