We’re continuing our introduction to the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition ⚖️🌍
In our previous post, we announced the selection process for the team. This time, we’d like you to meet the people who will guide participants through the competition — our coaches, Yuliia Parfeniuk and Viktoriia Semenina.
Yuliia Parfeniuk is a Legal Counsel at Genesis, where she leads the Legal Operations function and works closely with compliance matters.
Yuliia’s moot court journey began with Jessup, where she competed in the 2019–2020 and 2020–2021 seasons. During her second participation, her team ranked among the top international teams. She later took part in the national rounds of the Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Court and went on to coach a team competing in the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition.
For Yuliia, mooting is much more than a competition. It is a way to develop the ability to tackle complex and unfamiliar legal questions, conduct thorough legal research, see the bigger picture, and work effectively as part of a team.
Viktoriia Semenina is a Legal Counsel at Genesis, focusing on product compliance, data protection, intellectual property, and contracts. She leads the compliance function for a portfolio of more than 30 tech start-ups across 10+ jurisdictions.
Viktoriia has over eight years of experience in international law mooting. She competed in the Ukrainian National Rounds of the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition and the Jessup Competition, where her team placed third.
Since then, she has remained actively involved in Jessup as both an advisor and a judge. She advised teams from Lviv National University and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, with the latter advancing to the Octo-Final Rounds. Since 2024, Viktoriia has served as a judge in the Ukrainian and Polish National Rounds, as well as the International Rounds of the Jessup Competition.
Her experience allows her to see mooting from all sides — as a competitor, coach, and judge — while combining a strong background in international law, legal research, and oral advocacy with the perspective of a practicing lawyer.
Together, Yuliia and Viktoriia will support the team throughout the Jessup journey.
If you’ve been thinking about taking part in Jessup, this is your chance!
