Removing GPS does not hide a photo's location when visible clues and nearby posts can still point back to the person
A parent removes the location tag from a first-day-of-school photo. The frame still shows a school crest, a numbered bus stop and a distinctive fence. The caption adds the child's year group and “our new place”. Each clue is weak; together they narrow the search.
Location has three layers: metadata, visible clues and context from captions, timing or nearby posts. AI can combine them quickly, although a confident guess may still be wrong.
Before sharing, ask: whose location could this expose, what precision is acceptable, and which clues remain? Remove metadata, then reframe, blur, delay, restrict the audience or do not post.
