A Palestinian man stood on his rooftop in Gaza, hanging his family’s clothes. According to an Israeli soldier’s testimony published by Der Spiegel in cooperation with Breaking the Silence, a commanding officer treated this ordinary act as suspicious and sought authorization to open fire.
Shortly afterward, 12 members of one Palestinian family were reportedly killed in a strike. The testimony exposes a disturbing reality: when even the simplest acts of daily life are treated as threats, Palestinian civilians are denied the most basic right of all—the right to live.
