🇺🇸 The US Treasury has presented rules for the issuance and sale of stablecoins
Starting in 2027, issuers and crypto trading platforms will face new restrictions in the stablecoin sector on the American market. According to the proposal, starting January 18 of next year, stablecoin issuers will be required to obtain a federal or regional license.
Platforms will also be able to sell stablecoins issued abroad, but only if the foreign issuer complies with US laws and agreements between the US and the country in which it is regulated.
Starting July 18, 2028, broader restrictions are proposed: cryptocurrency exchanges and services will not be able to offer stablecoins to clients in the US, "unless the payment stablecoin is issued by an authorized payment stablecoin issuer."
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that these rules will provide regulatory certainty for businesses and help "strengthen the role of the US dollar," and welcomed public participation in the discussion. The deadline for submitting comments is 60 days after publication.
