Volkswagen is preparing to close 4 factories in Germany, affecting tens of thousands of workers. A 147-page document detailing the company's plans has leaked online — the company itself describes this as an "unprecedented" and "painful" restructuring.
The first two factories to close in 2031 are those that produce electric vehicles and bodies for luxury brands like Bentley and Lamborghini. In 2032, the factory producing vans will shut down, and in 2034, the largest of all, with 15,500 employees, where premium sedans are currently assembled.
