WHO charges Israel with barring thousands of Palestinian in Gaza from life saving care
World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned on 28 August that thousands of patients across the Gaza Strip have not been evacuated for life saving care due to Israeli restrictions.
Reporting on recent successful evacuations, Tedros said the agency moved 106 patients, among them 19 children, out of Gaza through the Rafah and Kerem Shalom/Karem Abu Salem crossings, putting the number of patients evacuated since October 2023 at over 13,200.
"Thousands more still await medical evacuations," the WHO chief wrote on X, adding that "Medical evacuations give people in need of urgent care a chance of survival. To ensure timely treatment for patients, medical evacuations require sustained access through multiple crossing routes."
