Armenia drops Russia as strategic ally citing Moscow's "failure" to intervene against Azerbaijan

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan explained on 27 August why his government's new political program has removed Russia from its list of "strategic" partners, citing Moscow's failure to intervene on Armenia's behalf in its conflict with Azerbaijan.

Earlier this week, the Armenian government released its proposed program for 2026-2031. Its description of relations with Russia removed language from the previous five year program describing Russia and Armenia's "strategic alliance."

Instead, the new program describes the relationship between the two former Soviet countries as a "transforming and deepening" partnership...
