SPHMMC & Operation Smile Discuss Strengthening Strategic Collaboration

St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) and Operation Smile held a productive discussion on strengthening strategic collaboration in specialized surgical care, advanced training, and sustainable capacity building.

The discussion focused on key areas of partnership:

🔹 Pediatric Anesthesia – supporting fellows’ advanced training abroad and introducing visiting professorship programs to strengthen knowledge transfer, mentorship, and local capacity.

🔹 Comprehensive Cleft Care – strengthening multidisciplinary cleft services, including potential infrastructure and equipment support for the modern OR, ward, and OPD.

🔹 Microsurgery – expanding advanced reconstructive surgery capacity through specialized training and skills development.

🔹 Advanced Surgical Training – exploring cadaver dissection and wet-lab–based training to provide hands-on learning and strengthen advanced surgical skills.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Abiy Semunigus, Regional Director of Operation Smile, and Dr. Mebratu Bejiga, Country Manager – Ethiopia, and staffs together with the leadership of SPHMMC, including College Provost Dr. Muluken Tesfaye and Vice provosts.
