Spirits of Enlightenmentعَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حَنْظَلَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ [ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ ] أَنَّهُ قَالَ: «يُسْلَكُ بِالسَّعِيدِ فِي طَرِيقِ الْأَشْقِيَاءِ حَتَّى يَقُولَ النَّاسُ: مَا أَشْبَهَهُ بِهِمْ! بَلْ هُوَ مِنْهُمْ، ثُمَّ يَتَدَارَكُهُ السَّعَادَةُ. وَقَدْ يُسْلَكُ…
'Ali ibn Hanzalah (-) Abu Abdillah (p.b.u.h.) as saying:


"Many a time, the fortunate (the blessed in the life eternal) adopts the ways of the wretched (the accursed in the life eternal) to such an extent that people start commenting, 'How closely does he resemble the wretched. Rather, he is one of them. Thus, his for-tune and happiness make good his loss. (On the contrary), many a time the wretched adopts the ways of the happy and fortunate to the extent that people start commenting, 'How closely does he resemble the happy! Rather, he is one of them.' Then finally his wretchedness asserts itself. Verily, Allah ends in happiness the life of a person for whom He decrees happiness (in the life eternal), even if the whole world should dwindle to a time as the last gasp of a dying camel."
