CBDT member Pallavi Agarwal said tax reforms and outreach produced over 1.32 crore updated ITRs in four years and ₹16,083 crore in additional tax. For AY 2026-27, over 97% of ITR-1 and over 95% of ITR-2 filings used the new regime. The department added 49 lakh first-time taxpayers by 31 July 2026 and ran 304 outreach programmes since April.
