Undergraduate Admission (Regular & Extension Programs)
Academic Year 2025/26 (2018 E.C.)
Addis Ababa University is pleased to announce that applications are now open for admission to its Undergraduate Regular and Extension Programs for the 2025/26 Academic Year (2018 E.C.). Interested candidates—whether applying under government sponsorship (cost-sharing) or self-sponsorship, are invited to apply by fulfilling the requirements and procedures outlined below.
#Requirements for Self-Sponsored Applicants
1. Applicants must have completed the Ethiopian Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination (ESSLCE) administered by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and achieved passing marks, as required by the MoE, for the academic years 2014–2017 E.C.
2. Applicants must take the Undergraduate Admission Test (UAT) of Addis Ababa University and obtain the required minimum passing score of 50 percent.
3. Applicants with previous enrollment in other government universities (2015–2017 E.C.) must submit official proof of cost-sharing payments along with their academic credentials.
4. Applicants who pursued remedial education at any recognized institution must successfully pass the remedial qualifying examination.
5. Applicants must pass any additional assessments required by the University for specific programs, including health-related, law, and other fields of study.
6. If an applicant’s ESSLCE and UAT results do not meet eligibility for their preferred program, they must consent to placement in an alternative field of study as determined by the University.
#Requirements for Government-Sponsored Applicants (Cost-Sharing Scheme)
1. Applicants must have taken the 2017 E.C. ESSLCE and achieved the minimum cut-off score for higher education admission as determined by the Ministry of Education.
2. Applicants must take the UAT and obtain a minimum passing score of 50 percent.
3. Applicants must provide official proof of economic deprivation, obtained from their local administrative authority (Kebele/Woreda/Zone/District) or a recognized legal organization supporting their education.
4. Applicants must pass any additional assessments required by the University for health-related, law, and other specific fields of study.
#AAU Presidential Scholarship Requirements
Applicants wishing to be considered for the AAU Presidential Scholarship must:
1. Achieve a minimum score of 500 in the 2017 E.C. ESSLCE.
2. Successfully pass the UAT administered by AAU.
3. Provide consent to be placed in a department alongside government-sponsored students, based on merit and institutional placement guidelines.
#Application Steps
1. Open the AAU Admission Portal: [https://portal.aau.edu.et](https://portal.aau.edu.et)
2. Click Apply for Admission (left-hand side menu).
3. From the Undergraduate Student menu, select Apply.
4. Click Call for Undergraduate Regular Admission.
5. Click Apply Now after reviewing the programs.
6. Create an account using the Create Undergraduate Applicant Account form. Use a valid email address as your username and set your password.
7. Log in with your email and password to access your AAU application account.
8. Fill out the Personal Profile and Academic Profile forms, then click Update and Next.
9. Under Financing Your Study, select either:
* Government Sponsorship: Upload supporting evidence for requesting sponsorship, then choose your freshman program (Natural Sciences or Social Sciences).
* Self-Sponsorship: Select your top three program preferences, consent to placement conditions, and continue.
10. Upload the required documents:
* ESSLCE result certificate
* Remedial result certificate (if applicable)
* Grade 9–12 transcripts
11. Select your UAT Exam Location from the drop-down menu.
12. Read the Consent Statement, select Accept, and click Submit (review all information before submission).
13. Proceed to payment:
* Application fee: ETB 350
* UAT fee: ETB 750
* Total: ETB 1,100
* Payment via Telebirr (QR code scan or mobile number deduction).
