☕️ GM! Here are the most important market events over the last 24 hours:
🌍Market Overview:
🔸 The US is taking a 55% share of a joint venture with a private Venezuelan company, on a 100-year lease over 65 billion barrels of proven reserves. Caracas puts the investment above $100 billion.
🔸 Trump used Section 338 of the 1930 Tariff Act for a 50% tax on $20 billion of Canadian imports. That authority has never been tested in court, and the Supreme Court killed his 1977-law tariffs in February.
🔸 Six months into the Iran war, the Dow is up nearly 19%, the S&P almost 22% and the Nasdaq 27% off the late-March bottom. All three are within reach of a fourth straight annual gain.
🔸 A former White House teleprompter operator will pay $172,000 to settle CFTC claims he traded Kalshi mention markets on words Trump had not said yet. He also takes a three-year trading ban.
🔸 SpaceX recovered its most recently launched Starship from the Indian Ocean. Of 13 full-up test flights, it is the first to survive the hourlong flight and stay floating and intact.
🔸 Iceland voted down restarting EU accession talks, 52.8% to 47.2%. Reykjavik was the only place in the country of 400,000 where a majority backed it, closing a question left open for more than a decade.
🪙Crypto Updates:
🔸 Solana set September 9 for Transaction V1, lifting the maximum transaction size from 1,232 bytes to 4,096. The first of five rent-cut stages starts in the week beginning Aug. 31.
🔸 An entity backed by Emirati security chief Sheikh Tahnoon owns 49% of the holding company behind a proposed national trust bank, with a Trump-family entity at 38%. The OCC gave preliminary approval on August 14.
🔸 Coinbase put its first four tokenized stocks on Base, each backed one-for-one by a real share and limited to eligible non-US users. Tokenized stock transfer volume ran $29.5 billion over 30 days, up 415%.
🔸 Six wallets untouched since 2011, 2012 and 2014 moved 553.59 $BTC, roughly $40.15 million, between Aug. 16 and 26. One of them had sat unspent since May 2012.
🔸 Sberbank plans to take $BTC, $ETH and $USDT as loan collateral once regulators sign off. Russia's new crypto framework takes effect September 1, 2026, under central bank supervision.
🔸 Hyperliquid logged its first builder-deployed HIP-4 outcome exchange, named OUT. The developer docs still list permissionless deployer actions as testnet-only, so this is not a confirmed mainnet launch.
