📰 NEWS | US Treasury Department Issues Sanctions Waivers for Venezuela Telecom Services, Contracts
The US Treasury Department has issued two general licenses allowing US companies to provide telecommunications technology and services to Venezuela’s state-run CANTV and CONATEL.
The waivers cover activities including network installation and maintenance, data storage, roaming agreements and infrastructure leasing. However, new acquisitions by Venezuelan state entities must come directly from US companies or citizens, while transactions involving entities from China, Russia, Iran, Cuba and North Korea remain prohibited.
The measures could affect CANTV’s longstanding cooperation with Chinese telecom companies Huawei and ZTE, which have helped modernize Venezuelan networks and expand fiber-optic infrastructure.
