Acting President Delcy Rodríguez has defended the oil agreement with the Trump administration, saying the deal will help turn Venezuela’s reserves into “welfare and prosperity” and contribute to education, healthcare and energy security.
According to Rodríguez, 17 oilfields containing 65 billion barrels of crude will be operated by undisclosed private companies for 25 years, with a production target of 1.5 million barrels per day. US and Venezuelan officials have said the initiative could attract $100 billion in private investment.
Details of the US role remain unclear, with reports indicating Washington could hold an ownership stake and secure 55 percent of the output. Meanwhile, grassroots organizations protested the agreement in Caracas, raising concerns over sovereignty, transparency and what they described as “imperialist aggression.”
