📰 NEWS | Venezuela’s UK-Held Gold to Be Released to US Control, Foreign Audits
Venezuela’s 31 tons of gold reserves held by the Bank of England, worth around $4.3 billion, are set to be released and placed under US Treasury Department management following recent US-backed talks between the government and representatives of the opposition-majority parliament elected in 2015.
Opposition delegation member Ramón López said the gold would be deposited in a US Treasury account and subjected to external audits. He said the resources would support housing and healthcare projects for families who lost their homes in the June 24 double earthquake.
The agreement also includes plans to restart the process of reforming the Supreme Court and renewing its justices.
