Software / Firmwares - Overview and Legal Considerations:
Upon entering the Switch scene, we opted for an open-source solution, ensuring that our product complies with legal standards, unlike other options currently available. Our focus is on enabling users to create personal backups of their original games, but we do not condone or support illegal downloads from the internet.
Open Source:
Unlike “Flashcard” solutions on the market, our UnlockSwitch is not preloaded with illegal files. It comes equipped with its own proprietary programmer and programming software. Additionally, our hardware components are pre-configured to support custom firmware installations.
What does ‘pre-configured components’ mean?
Our devices contain only the essential components, with the two primary chips (ice40/esp32) engineered for seamless communication, ensuring smooth and efficient integration of custom firmware.
Firmware:
We provide a default test firmware intended to validate the communication between the programmer, the UnlockSwitch , and the Xtractor . Its main function is to ensure proper hardware assembly and verify that all components are interacting as expected. This firmware also allows you to confirm that your UnlockSwitch is equipped with our proprietary, pre-flashed, secure bootloader, ready to accept additional custom firmware for any current or future requirements. The system supports seamless updates or upgrades through the included programmer in every kit (UnlockSwitch Solo and PBS). All third-party firmware developed externally to our engineering team will be subject to comprehensive validation procedures. Updates and relevant details will be communicated exclusively through our official Twitter account. Please note, no firmware downloads will be hosted or made accessible via our website or Twitter account.
Testing and Validation:
Firmware flashing tests and demonstrations, aimed at validating backup execution, will be prioritized for our beta testers. They will rigorously assess the system’s functionality, ensuring optimal performance. Once validated, their approval will confirm the product’s readiness for the final stage before mass production and release.
What exactly does beta tester validation mean?
The validation process involves receiving the following from our team:
• Priority access to the programming software
• Remote updates to their received samples using our proprietary software
• Flashing of external firmware that enables backups to run on the UnlockSwitch .
Pre-order / Order:
Please be aware that no sales will take place until testing and validation with our external beta testers is fully completed. There will be no pre-orders or early sales.
We are moving forward with mass production and will share updates on every stage of the production process here.
