Constance Margaret Fisher murdered three of her children in 1954, then attempted suicide by drinking a bottle of shampoo, which was obviously unsuccessful.
She claimed that god had commanded her to kill her children to "save them from evil."
Before the murders, she had displayed signs of depression/anxiety and attempted suicide.
She was found not guilty by reason of insanity and sent to a mental institution.
By 1955 she had made a miraculous recovery and stopped "hearing voices," which prompted her husband to petition for her release.
She was set free in 1959.
Seven years later, she murdered three more of her children.
During the trial, she turned on the crocodile tears and pled not guilty by reason of insanity.
A police captain and a doctor both testified that she was lucid but, absurdly, she was once again declared not guilty and re-institutionalized.
In 1973, after her husband stopped visiting her, she escaped and immediately drowned herself.
Was she insane? You'd have to be to murder your children in cold blood, but she was not delusional.
In any case, insane criminals are more deserving of capital punishment than sane criminals. Just get rid of them.
