Israeli President Isaac Herzog has written to Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar, calling him a hero of Israel, India and all of humanity.

In the letter received over the weekend, Herzog shared prayers for his full and speedy recovery and said he looks forward to welcoming him to Jerusalem.

Once recovered, he will present him with Israel’s highest civilian honour, the Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism.
