DON'T BE LULLED
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. I Thess. 5:1-3
Reading this text, I saw another level of meaning.
Paul originally wrote to his audience, Christians of Thessalonica, using this text to encourage them to hold on to the Lord Jesus, highlighting how that Jesus' coming will not take Christians by surprise.
Ironically though, it presents the status of today's church.
Many pastors are lulling their followers to sleep with the feel good strain of messages. Bless me, bless me, bless me, messages that do not reveal how that the Kingdom of God must be obtained through tribulations, afflictions, persecutions and all.
The message is 'peace and safety', 'peace and prosperity', such that when the beast system starts unravelling, many saints will not be ready to face, and overcome the challenges.
What an irony.
Know this, the Kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost, and many more times we have to suffer many things - pain, loss, failure, lack etc - for righteousness sake.
Go beyond the message of 'living a soft life' in Christianity. There's a level of grit we need to succeed in this journey.
Leave the congregational level of being pampered and begin to dig into and discover God. You'll be glad you did, and gather strength for the times ahead.
Start now. Start today:
He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock; Deut 32:13
...see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey. I Sam. 14:29
