“I like making people uncomfortable. I am not for violence on screen or in real life but if the character is going to do something…if the story demands it, then I don’t want to shy away from that. I do not want to show sanitised content, because we are not living in a very sanitised world.”
@battatawada (Shweta Tripathi) believes in reinventing herself every time and assaying roles that are different from any she has played before — and her own lively real-life persona. Her rendering of Golu in the three seasons of the gripping series ‘Mirzapur’ had her playing a complex, layered woman. In the run-up to the shooting, Tripathi says she had, as is her practice, created a playlist that is in sync with the character. Filled with hard rock and metal, it was meant to help her get into the mind of a woman who is forced to pick up the gun and engage in violence. Golu was a character who left a lasting impact on her.
On her relationship with any of her on-screen personas, she adds, “I definitely don’t fully become the character, but there have been times — and I’m laughing and smiling right now — but there have been dark, dark times where I have gone so far, so ahead, so into it, when and where I got lost and I did not even realise what’s happening to me.”
In an exclusive interview, Tripathi unwinds about six of her characters, her creative process and their impact on her as an individual.
