🚨The Enemies of Ahl al-Bayt Throughout History
The enemies of the Ahl al-Bayt (the family of the Prophet) have always tried, throughout history, to diminish their virtues and obscure their rightful position.
✅A debate between a Shi’a woman and Sibt ibn al-Jawzi, a renowned Sunni scholar
❇️One of the distinct qualities of Amir al-Mu’minin, Imam Ali (peace be upon him) was that he repeatedly said to the people:
“Ask me before you lose me — ask me about whatever you wish.”
This statement was unique to him, and anyone who later made such a claim was soon disgraced.
📜The following story relates to that statement:
One day, Sibt ibn al-Jawzi stood upon the pulpit and declared, “Ask me before you lose me.”
🧕A wise lady, a devoted believer in the guardianship of Imam Ali (peace be upon him), wished to show Sibt ibn al-Jawzi that he had said something beyond his stature. She called out to him from below the pulpit:
“I have a question.”
👳♂Ibn al-Jawzi replied, “Ask whatever you want.”
🧕The Shi’a woman said: Tell me, is it true that after the Muslims killed ‘Uthman, his body lay on the ground for three days and no one came forward to lift or bury him?
👳♂Ibn al-Jawzi answered: Yes, that is true.
🧕The woman continued: Is it also true that when Salman (R.A) passed away in al-Mada’in, Imam Ali (A.S) traveled from Medina to Mada’in, prayed over his body, and personally attended his burial not allowing his body to remain unburied?
👳♂Ibn al-Jawzi replied: “Yes, it is true.”
🧕Then the woman said:
Tell me then, why did Ali (A.S), who was in Medina at the time, not come to lift and bury the body of ‘Uthman? In that case, either Ali was at fault for neglecting the burial, or ‘Uthman was not a believer, which is why Ali exempted himself from participating in his burial.
👳♂Sibt ibn al-Jawzi was dumbfounded before the woman. He realized that if he considered either Ali or ‘Uthman mistaken, he would speak against his own beliefs — for he considered both to be rightful caliphs.
🗣Embarrassed, he said:
O woman! If you’ve come here with your husband’s permission and you dare to speak to me so shamelessly before strangers, may God curse your husband; and if you came without his permission, may God curse you!
🧕The Shi’a woman promptly replied:
Tell me, when ‘Aisha went out to battle against Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (A.S) and started the Battle of Jamal , did she go out with the permission of her husband, the Prophet (PBUH), or without his permission?
👳♂😵💫🤐Sibt ibn al-Jawzi was again silenced.
If he said she went out without permission, he would condemn ‘Aisha herself; and if he said she went out with permission, he would be condemning Imam Ali (A.S). Either answer contradicted his beliefs.
✅Thus, he was completely confounded, descended from the pulpit in shame, and went straight home.
