Aqaba Airport in Jordan began receiving planes designated to transport Israelis stranded abroad after the Israeli airspace was closed due to the Israeli US war on Iran.
Jordan, alongside Egypt, participates in the evacuation plan, with stranded individuals transported by land from Aqaba Airport through the Wadi Araba crossing to the city of Eilat inside the occupied territories.
The first flights arrived at Aqaba Airport on March 4, 2026, coming from Europe, including flights from Athens and Sofia operated by Electra Airways. Each flight typically uses an Airbus A320 with a capacity of around 180 passengers.
From the start of the war until March 4, approximately 10,000 Israelis entered the occupied territories through border crossings, including about 5,739 via the Taba crossing in Egypt and 2,863 via the Wadi Araba crossing in Jordan, while more than 15,000 people left Israel for Jordan and Egypt since February 28.
