We have different forms of misguidance, and each one sacrifices a principle of the religion for something else:
- Some undermine the religion as a whole for the sake of desires, temptations, and worldly freedoms; the liberals.
- Some undermine Islamic allegiance and brotherhood for the sake of nationalism.
- Some undermine Tawḥīd for the sake of exaggerated veneration of the righteous; the Qubūriyyah.
- Some undermine the Sunnah and the Salafi methodology in dealing with people of innovation for the sake of cooperation, unity, or perceived benefit; such as the Mumayyiʿah and Surūriyyah.
- And on the other end of the spectrum, some undermine obedience to the Muslim rulers and unity under the imām for the sake of so-called justice and revolutionary change; the Khawārij.
Different deviations, different slogans, but the same underlying problem: sacrificing a Sharʿī principle in order to preserve something they consider more important.
