Humming for one minute can change the room inside your head.

Jonathan Goldman walks Heart Coherence Collaborative through the sequence: check how you feel, take slow belly breaths, keep the lips closed, hum one comfortable note four or five times, then sit in equal silence.

The pitch is often just the speaking voice. He says even a short round left him looser and a little high. Stretch it to five minutes of sound and five of quiet and standing up too fast can wobble you.

Humming can raise nasal nitric oxide, nudge the vagus nerve, and settle the system after the sound stops.

The oldest instruments in the room are still the lungs and the pause after them.
