⚓ SHIP FITTER — UNIT CONVERSION CHEAT SHEET
A few conversions every ship fitter should have at hand:
📏 LENGTH
1 inch (in) = 25.4 mm
1 ft = 304.8 mm
1 m = 3.281 ft
1 mm = 0.03937 in
🔩 PIPE SIZE
1/2” = 15 mm
3/4” = 20 mm
1” = 25 mm
1 1/4” = 32 mm
1 1/2” = 40 mm
2” = 50 mm
2 1/2” = 65 mm
3” = 80 mm
4” = 100 mm
6” = 150 mm
8” = 200 mm
10” = 250 mm
12” = 300 mm
⚠️ Note: these are nominal pipe sizes (NPS), not the actual outside diameter.
🌡️ TEMPERATURE
°C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
°F = (°C × 9/5) + 32
20°C = 68°F
50°C = 122°F
100°C = 212°F
🔧 PRESSURE
1 bar = 100 kPa
1 bar ≈ 14.5 psi
1 MPa = 10 bar
1 psi ≈ 0.069 bar
1 kgf/cm² ≈ 0.981 bar
💨 VACUUM
1 bar = 100 kPa
1 bar ≈ 29.53 inHg
⚓ Quick rule:
1” = 25.4 mm
1 bar ≈ 14.5 psi
1 MPa = 10 bar
1 kW ≈ 1.34 hp
Save it. You never know when a manual, drawing or pressure gauge will decide to speak another language. 😉
