“Why do you want to relocate?”

It’s one of the most common interview questions international job seekers get, and one where your answer can quietly hurt your chances of moving forward.

Many candidates answer it by talking almost exclusively about wanting to move abroad, seeking a better quality of life, higher salaries, and the like.

Here’s the problem: when that’s your entire answer, you unintentionally shift the focus away from the one thing the recruiter actually wants to hear about: the company.

By the time you’re sitting in that interview, they already know you want to relocate.

What they really want to hear is that you’re genuinely excited about joining their team.

In my latest article for The Global Move, I explain:

- why focusing so much on the idea of relocating during interviews can work against you;
- what employers actually want to hear instead; and
- how to approach relocation questions the right way, with examples of weak and strong answers.

Hope it comes in handy for those of you who are currently looking for a tech job abroad.
