🔸🔹Microphthalmia in cats is a congenital developmental defect in which one or both eyes fail to develop to a normal size. It is most commonly associated with genetic abnormalities or disturbances during fetal development, including certain intrauterine infections (such as toxoplasmosis, although this is an uncommon cause). Vision is often impaired to varying degrees depending on the severity of the ocular malformations. The condition itself does not always require treatment, but associated complications such as recurrent infections, glaucoma, or chronic pain may necessitate medical management or surgical removal of the affected eye.
