Johann Froben was a Basel-based humanist printer and publisher who became one of the most important figures in early Renaissance printing. He published the works of Erasmus, including the first printed Greek New Testament, and was renowned for the exceptional quality and scholarly accuracy of his editions. His printing house became a center of humanist learning, attracting scholars from across Europe and establishing Basel as a major center of the book trade in the 16th century.
