"Our national doctrine, in cultivating its own distinct character, must first and foremost rid itself of everything that is not its own, everything that is foreign. For example, the aristocratic arrogance, idleness, and revelry that were in vogue among the Slavic nations in the nineteenth century have, without our realizing it, infected us as well. We must bid a final farewell to the pretensions and ill-suited remnants of the nineteenth century.
Our older intellectuals, who were educated in Russian or Polish schools, still cannot come to their senses even today, and for the most part, they are still incapable of thinking in Lithuanian. The nostalgia in their souls, like a kind of neurosis, constantly draws them into all sorts of ventures and grand ambitions. They still cannot get used to making do with a small salary; they cannot do without lavish parties; they still do not know how to enjoy themselves in a civilized manner; they get drunk and go wild, like cobblers, after downing “do zelionavo zmeja.” Their peculiar foolishness and pride have overshadowed their Lithuanian modesty and thrift.
Now you can understand why the younger generation grumbles and won’t settle down, seeing all this and mocking it. Without delay, we must shake off these Slavic remnants..."

"Mūsų tautinė doktrina, besirūpindama savąja tipologija, visų pirma privalo nusikratyti viso to, kas yra nesava, kas yra svetima. Pavyzdžiui, devynioliktojo šimtmečio slavų tautose buvęs madoje bajorų poniškumas, tinginiavimas ir lėbavimas nejučiomis ir mus užkrėtė. Reiktų galutinai atsisveikinti su devynioliktojo šimtmečio pretenzijomis ir netikusiomis liekanomis.
Rusų arba lenkų mokyklose brendę mūsų senesniej inteligentai, dar šiandie negali atsipeikėti ir daugumoje jie dar nepajėgia lietuviškai mąstyti. Jų sielos nastalgija, tarsi tam tikras neurozas, juos į kažkokias avantiūras, į plačius užsimojimus traukte traukia. Jie dar neįpranta menku atlyginimu pasitenkinti, jie negali be triukšmingų pokylių apsieiti, jie dar nemoka kultūringai linksmintis, jie pasilsi ir pradžiunga, kaip batsiuviai, nusigėrę „do zelionavo zmeja." Savotiškas jų paikumas ir išdidumas nustelbė juose lietuviškąjį kuklumą ir taupumą.
Dabar supraskite, dėl ko jaunoji karta murma ir nerimsta tą visą matydama ir pašiepdama. Neatidėliojant slaviškų nuosėdų mes turime nusikratyti..."
