🔻Hoffmeister, referring to America’s failure in its recent war with Iran, said: “The US desperately wanted to remain the global hegemon or the world’s policeman, and that is one of the reasons it starts so many conflicts around the world. America is like a dying empire and a wounded animal. Wounded animals are very dangerous because they attack without reason. This also applies to empires throughout history, and it is nothing new. An empire in decline or a dying civilization is always at its most dangerous stage. The current period of America closely resembles the late Roman Empire. For example, in the third or fourth century AD, Rome’s population consisted of only 20% true Romans, while 80% came from the Near East and Africa—similar to the situation with many current migrants in the West. At the same time, the Roman Empire was still trying to expand and conquer new territories. This phenomenon is very similar to what is happening in the West today, especially in the United States as a declining empire.”

As in Goethe’s *Faust*, the character Mephistopheles symbolizes the devil. He makes a deal with Faust and is essentially a force that always tries to do evil, but ultimately produces good. This allegory also applies to Trump’s attack. America, which attacked Iran to prove its power and maintain the unipolar order, has completely weakened itself and accelerated the transition to a multipolar order in which Iran now plays a prominent role.
