Are These Reasonable Conditions for a Pharmacy Job?
I would like to ask for people’s opinions about an interview I attended last month for a pharmacy position.
During the interview, I was told about several conditions that I found quite unusual.
1- Have no plans to pursue further academic qualifications or improve my academic degree for the next two years.
2- Have no plans to get married during that period.
3- I was also told that I should not have plans to take annual leave/vacations during the next two years.
3- Not have another job or take shifts elsewhere.
4- Be available to work on Fridays and Eid/official holidays, as well as take additional shifts whenever requested.
5- Act as a model for the pharmacy’s advertising and promotional content.
What made these conditions particularly surprising to me is that the position offered a salary of around $400 per month, while also requiring considerable flexibility and availability outside normal working expectations.
I completely understand that an employer can set requirements related to working hours, professional performance, availability, and responsibilities that are genuinely related to the job. However, I find it difficult to understand why an employer should have a say in whether an employee wants to continue their education, get married, go to vacations, or maintain another professional opportunity.
As far as I understand, employees working in the private sector are entitled by law in this country to at least two weeks of annual leave each year. I would also like to know whether this applies to private-sector pharmacist?
Are these conditions considered normal and acceptable for a private-sector pharmacy position, or do they go beyond reasonable employment requirements?
I would especially appreciate opinions from pharmacists, pharmacy managers, HR professionals.
