Free speech isn't a fringe issue. It isn't left or right. It's something the overwhelming majority of Australians believe is fundamental to our country. On August 30, we're marching to defend it.
Yet while Australians overwhelmingly value this freedom, governments across the country continue to expand laws regulating what we can say, write and post online.
Instead of respecting the fundamental 'gentleman's agreement' of politics in a democracy, Labor and their allies in the uniparty are seeking to ban opposition and silence patriotic dissent.
Free speech matters precisely because Australians disagree. It protects our ability to criticise governments, challenge prevailing ideas, campaign for political change and have arguments that those in power might rather we didn't have.
Once that freedom is surrendered, getting it back is much harder.
On August 30, Australians across the country will march to defend it and demand constitutional protection for free speech, an end to the expansion of censorship laws, and the restoration of Australians' right to speak and organise freely.
87% of us already agree that free speech matters. It's time we stood up for it.
