Yoel Zilberman at the "People of the State" Conference by ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth: "Within three weeks, we will establish a new yeshiva in the Jordan Valley—next to it, a new Haredi city will rise"
Yoel Zilberman, CEO and Founder of Hashomer Hachadash, spoke today at the "People of the State" Conference by ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth and revealed the organization's next settlement initiative:
"The average citizen has no chance of building a home in Gush Dan, but the open spaces near the country's borders make it possible to build a dream home. A month ago, we established Israel's first new moshav in 20 years—the agricultural moshav Batron in the Jordan Valley Regional Council area."
According to Zilberman, the organization is working to establish 150 new settlements along the country's borders through student villages, Nahal nuclei, educational campuses, and new branches of the "Adam ve-Adama" school network.
Zilberman revealed that the next step involves engaging the Haredi public in settlement efforts:
"We are telling them: come establish your yeshiva not in Jerusalem or Bnei Brak, but on the Jordanian border. Within three weeks, the first yeshiva will arrive, established on the border at a point called 'Camp Shetach' north of Jericho. Alongside it, a new city will rise—'Ir HaTmarim' (City of Palms). This will be a Haredi city."
He added, "Joel Moses Salomon's dream was to establish Petah Tikva right there, where he crossed the Jordan River, where there is now a very significant settlement. The potential is between 20,000 and 50,000 Haredi youth who will come to these places."
He further noted, "When you travel to Las Vegas, you see a thriving, growing city—there is no reason we shouldn't have that on our borders. We can take the Egyptian border, 20 empty kilometers, and establish dozens of new settlements along it featuring employment, renewable energy, and agriculture."
At the beginning of the interview, Zilberman expressed condolences to the family of the late teenager Yair Vilensky, who was killed yesterday in a disaster on the Lebanese border, and wished a full recovery to the injured.
