Waypoint-1: An Open-Source Real-Time Game World Generator
Overworld, a startup founded by former members of the Stability AI research team, has open-sourced Waypoint-1—two models (2.3B and 6.1B) for generating interactive worlds based on text prompts. They also raised $4.5 million in a pre-seed round.
I tried it, and overall, it looks like any other real-time diffusion world generator. Nothing groundbreaking, but it's open source!
But the main feature is performance: the entry-level model can run on consumer GPUs, delivering 30 FPS with a 4-step generation and a whopping 60 FPS with a 2-step generation at 360p.
By the way, here's something funny: to collect data, developers pay $5 per hour for recording gameplay of a whole range of games using their special software.
