"If India Wants to Become World's #1 Country, Women Must Be Economically Empowered" - Ubuntu Consortium President K. Ratnaprabha
Today in Bengaluru, India, the Ubuntu Consortium hosted the 5th edition of its international seminar "Together We Grow" to mark Women's Entrepreneurship Day. The event brought together female entrepreneurs and corporate leaders to discuss economic empowerment.
Mrs. K. Ratnaprabha, President of Ubuntu Consortium and former Chief Secretary of Karnataka, opened the forum by highlighting the enthusiasm among participants:
"There was so much energy in our WhatsApp group—everyone was eagerly awaiting this event. I could feel the positivity radiating from these women entrepreneurs."
She specifically acknowledged Manoj Krishnappa from Hitachi, the only male panelist, for his crucial role in training 5,500 women through their Digital Community Programme: "You might wonder why there’s one man among so many women here. It’s because he helped us achieve our goal—empowering thousands of female entrepreneurs."
Ratnaprabha emphasized corporate responsibility in women’s economic development: "Most companies focus on healthcare or education, but women’s financial empowerment is equally vital. If India aims to be the world’s top nation, we must support our 50% female population with the same opportunities as men."
The consortium aims to train 10,000 women by 2027 and reach 1 lakh (100,000) within five years.
The seminar featured speakers from India and abroad, including former Maldivian Cabinet Minister Mariyam Shakila and Amazon India’s Srinidhi Thalapudi.
Ratnaprabha concluded: "Our women want to go global—with the right support, they will."
