The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), is preparing to host three major high-level international events in the coming months and year:
โข International Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA): November 23โ27, 2026
โข 40th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly: February 8โ15, 2027
โข United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP32): November 2027
To support the successful organization and delivery of these major international events, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls for 1,015 Ethiopian volunteers to serve as Protocol Cadets.
Selected volunteers will have the opportunity to contribute to the successful hosting of Heads of State and Government, senior government officials, diplomats, international organizations, media professionals, observers, and other distinguished guests and participants.
This is a unique opportunity to represent Ethiopiaโs renowned hospitality, professionalism, and cultural values on the international stage, while gaining valuable experience in diplomatic protocol, event coordination, hospitality, and international engagement.
All applicants will undergo a screening and selection process before final deployment.
1. Roles and Responsibilities
Selected Protocol Cadets will receive appropriate training in diplomatic protocol, event coordination, guest services, and related areas and may be assigned to roles including:
โข Welcoming and greeting international guests and delegates;
โข Providing protocol and guest-support services;
โข Supporting conference logistics and event coordination;
โข Assisting Heads of State and Government, senior officials, delegations, and distinguished guests as assigned;
โข Working closely with MoFA protocol, event-management, and diplomatic teams;
โข Supporting activities at designated conference venues, airports, hotels, and other official locations;
โข Providing assistance to participants in accordance with established procedures and protocols;
โข Upholding Ethiopiaโs image, hospitality, professionalism, and service standards throughout the conferences.
2. Eligibility Requirements
โข The eligibility requirements will be based on selection criteria adapted from the UNFCCC framework
Nationality
โข Must be an Ethiopian citizen.
Language Proficiency
โข English proficiency is mandatory.
โข Applicants who can speak, read, and write at least one additional official working language of the United NationsโArabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanishโare strongly encouraged to apply.
Education
โข Must be currently enrolled in at least the First year of study at a recognized higher-learning institution, regardless of field of study.
Previous Experience
โข No prior professional work experience is required.
โข Applicants with previous volunteer experience at national, regional, continental, or international conferences and events are encouraged to apply and should provide supporting evidence where available.
3. Availability and Commitment
Applicants must:
โข Be willing to undergo all required training sessions;
โข Be fully available during the assigned conference period;
โข Be willing to participate in preparatory activities before the conference;
โข Where necessary, be available for a limited period after the conference;
โข Be willing to work according to assigned shifts and schedules;
โข Be prepared to serve guests and participants across different locations and operational environments;
