Hi All,
There's been a lot of discussion recently regarding Smart Glasses (such as Meta) and their ability to record potentially in area's that they shouldn't.
We have to be fair as these can be people's prescription glasses, in some cases their only pair and they can provide genuine accessibility aids.
We are issuing the following expanded guidelines as an addendum to our Code of Conduct for this year, and it will be included fully in 2027:
Smart Glasses at Furcation
Smart glasses, including Meta glasses and similar devices, are permitted at Furcation with the below caveats:
Smart glasses are subject to the same rules as any other camera or recording device. They must not be used to photograph, film, livestream or otherwise record in designated photography-free areas, including the Fursuit Lounge, pool facilities and Dealers’ Den. These areas will be clearly marked.
If smart glasses are your primary or only pair of glasses and you need to enter one of these areas, the ConOps desk will provide residue-free stickers to cover the camera lens. These coverings must be used while you are in the restricted area.
Anyone found wearing smart glasses in a photography-free area without the camera lens covered will be asked to leave the area and may only return once the covering has been applied.
Anyone found deliberately or surreptitiously recording in a photography-free area will be removed from the event and permanently banned from Furcation.
Where the nature of the recording is sufficiently serious, including where it may constitute a criminal offence, the police may be contacted.
When entering another person’s accommodation or private space, you must respect their wishes regarding cameras and recording devices. Recording must not take place without the consent of those present.
Volunteers on active duty will be expected to have lenses covered at all times, as they will have free access to all area's of the convention.
