National Bank of Ethiopia Directs $500 Million Liquidity Injection via Its Bi-Weekly Special Foreign Exchange Auction
National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) announced a $500 million special foreign exchange auction scheduled for Thursday, August 20, 2026.
This bi-weekly intervention is designed to address foreign exchange demand, stabilize domestic market liquidity, and support structured currency allocation across the national banking sector. Commercial banks across the country have been invited to participate by submitting competitive bids in accordance with regulatory parameters.
According to operational guidelines released by the central bank on today, all participation will be handled digitally through the CSD-Based FX Auction System. The bidding window opens at 10:00 AM and closes at 12:00 PM on Thursday. Following the submission period, the NBE will evaluate bids and publish the final auction results at 3:00 PM, with complete transaction settlements required by the end of the day.
