Your kids might only ever see fireflies in videos.
The summer light show is fading. Habitat loss, pesticides, and artificial light are wiping out firefly populations, and scientists warn we could be the last generation to watch them blink across a field at dusk.
Think about what that means. A whole species of living light, gone in one human lifetime, replaced by a 40-second clip on a screen.
Fireflies flash to find each other. Streetlights and porch bulbs drown out those signals, so they never connect, never breed. We didn't hunt them. We just left the lights on.
Go outside this summer while there's still something to see.
