⚠️ ILLINOIS JUST SHATTERED A U.S. TORNADO RECORD
Something remarkable is unfolding across the Midwest. Illinois has now logged 243 preliminary tornado reports in 2026 — surpassing the previous record of 229 reported in Texas in 2015 and giving Illinois the highest preliminary annual total recorded for any U.S. state.
Even more striking is WHERE this is happening. Historically, when we think about America's “Tornado Alley,” we think about Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas.
Yet this year the storm pattern has shifted dramatically northward, with Illinois becoming the epicenter of tornado activity.
