⚠️ Beware of This Laptop Scam!

Did you know someone can change the processor name displayed in Windows to make an old laptop appear newer?

Here's how to check—and why you shouldn't trust the displayed processor name alone.

🔍 Check Your Processor
Press Windows + R
Type dxdiag and
press Enter
Check the Processor information shown.
⚠️ The Trick

Someone can modify the processor name shown in Windows by editing the Registry:

Press Windows + R
Type regedit and press Enter
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE → HARDWARE → DESCRIPTION → System → CentralProcessor → 0
Double-click ProcessorNameString
Change the displayed processor name to something else.

📌 Reason: This only changes the processor name that some Windows utilities display. It does not change your computer's actual CPU or improve its performance.

How to Stay Safe

✔️ Don't rely only on the processor name shown in dxdiag or System Information when buying a used laptop.
✔️ Verify the specifications using multiple tools, check the BIOS/UEFI if possible, or compare the hardware details with the laptop's model number and manufacturer specifications.

⚠️ Note: Editing the Windows Registry incorrectly can cause system issues. Only make changes if you understand what you're doing.
